ASCII art you can paste into Discord and Slack

Copy any ASCII piece as plain text and paste it into Discord, Slack or Teams inside a code block, so it keeps its shape.

Loading the builder…

/WHY

ASCII art was made for chat. In a code block it lines up perfectly in Discord, Slack, Teams and Telegram, needs no upload, and nobody else's message looks like it.

The builder crops any piece to a width that fits the chat window, converts it to plain ASCII if you want it safe on every phone, counts the characters against each app's limit, and writes the message plus the code to post it from a bot or webhook.

/EXAMPLES

Ready-made examples to copy

Each one is complete. Copy it as it is, or change the piece name to any piece in the library.

Celebrate a release

Post it in your announcements channel when a deploy goes out.

v2.0 is live 🚀
```
        |
       / \
      / _ \
     |.o '.|
     |'._.'|
     |     |
   ,'|  |  |`.
  /  |  |  |  \
  |,-'--|--'-.|
```

A Discord bot command

A slash command that replies with a random piece frame (discord.js v14).

import { SlashCommandBuilder } from "discord.js";
import frames from "./frames.json" with { type: "json" };

export const data = new SlashCommandBuilder().setName("art").setDescription("Post some ASCII art");
export async function execute(interaction) {
  const art = frames[Math.floor(Math.random() * frames.length)];
  await interaction.reply("```\n" + art + "\n```");
}

Slack: post from CI when the build passes

A step for GitHub Actions using an incoming webhook.

- name: Celebrate on Slack
  if: success()
  run: |
    curl -X POST -H 'Content-type: application/json' \
      --data "{\"text\": \"Build passed\n\`\`\`\n$(cat art.txt)\n\`\`\`\"}" \
      "${{ secrets.SLACK_WEBHOOK_URL }}"

Animated: upload a GIF

Code blocks are still. For motion, download the GIF from the builder and drop it into the channel; both Discord and Slack play GIFs inline.

1. Make yours above, then press Download GIF.
2. Drag the file into the message box.
3. Add a line of text and send.

How to do it

  1. Open a piece and pause on the frame you want.
  2. Press Copy as text.
  3. In the chat box, type three backticks, paste, then three backticks again.

/GUIDE

Width: fit the smallest screen

A code block wider than the chat window wraps, and wrapped ASCII art falls apart. On desktop, Discord and Slack fit about 80 characters; on a phone, 30 to 40. Set the width to 40 if most of your members are on mobile.

Message limits

Discord messages are limited to 2,000 characters (4,000 with Nitro), Slack to 4,000 per text block, Telegram to 4,096. The builder counts the whole message, including the code block markers, and warns when it is too long.

Plain ASCII or Unicode

Box drawing and block characters look great on desktop but some phone fonts draw them at a different width, which breaks the alignment. Plain ASCII only uses characters every font has at the same width.

/FAQS

ASCII art you can paste into Discord and Slack: frequently asked questions

Q. How do I post Discord ASCII art without it breaking?
Wrap the art in a code block: three backticks on their own line, the art, then three backticks again. Discord then uses a monospace font, so every character lines up. The builder writes the whole message this way, with your text above the art, ready to paste into the message box.
Q. Where can I find ASCII art for Discord that I can paste?
Any piece in the library works. Open it, pause on a frame and press Copy as text, or use the builder here, which crops the piece to a width that fits chat and counts the characters. Sleeping Cat, Birthday Cake, Rocket Launch and Christmas Tree all work well in a channel.
Q. How wide should ASCII art be for Discord on mobile?
About 30 to 40 characters for phones, and up to about 80 for desktop. A code block wider than the screen wraps, and wrapped art falls apart. The builder's width slider runs from 20 to 80 characters and height from 6 to 30 lines; set the width to 40 if most of your members use phones.
Q. What is the character limit for ASCII art in a Discord message?
A standard Discord message allows 2,000 characters, and that includes the backticks and any text above the art. The builder counts the whole message for the app you pick and warns when it is too long. Make the art narrower or shorter, or send the GIF instead, to fit.
Q. How do I paste ASCII art into Slack?
Pick Slack in the builder, copy the message and paste it into the message box. The three backtick lines turn it into a code block, so Slack shows the art in a monospace font and keeps its shape. Keep the art fairly narrow, because the sidebar leaves less room than you might expect.
Q. Can a Discord bot or webhook post ASCII art?
Yes. With Discord selected, the builder gives you a discord.js v14 script that posts the art to a channel, and a curl command for a channel webhook. Both send the same code block message, so the art lines up. Keep your bot token, channel ID or webhook URL in environment variables.
Q. How do I post ASCII art to Slack from a script or CI?
Create an Incoming Webhook in your Slack app, then run the curl command from the builder's Slack tab with the webhook URL. Triple backticks in the text field become a code block. A CI step can call the same command when a build passes, so the team sees a small celebration.
Q. Why does my ASCII art look broken on phones?
Some phone fonts draw box-drawing and block characters at a different width, which breaks the alignment, or the art is wider than the screen. Turn on Plain ASCII only in the builder, which uses only characters every font draws at the same width, and lower the width to about 40.
Q. Can I send animated ASCII art in Discord or Slack?
Yes, as a GIF. Code blocks are always still, so press Download GIF (animated) in the builder, which records 3 seconds at 480 pixels wide on a dark chat background, and drag the file into the message box. Both apps play GIFs inline in the conversation.
Q. Does the ASCII art work in Teams and Telegram too?
Yes. Pick Teams or Telegram in the builder and it formats the same code block message and checks it against that app's length limit. Both show code blocks in a monospace font. If the art wraps on a phone, narrow it or turn on Plain ASCII only.
Q. Which look is best for chat ASCII art?
The builder starts on the ASCII look, which uses ordinary keyboard characters and pastes cleanly almost anywhere. Dense ASCII adds detail for wide desktop chats, and Blocks gives bold shapes on desktop. For mixed desktop and phone audiences, stick with ASCII plus Plain ASCII only.
Q. How do I pick the frame of the animation that I paste?
Use the Moment in the animation slider in the builder, which moves through the piece in quarter-second steps and updates the message as you slide. On a piece page, press Pause on the frame you like, then Copy as text copies exactly that frame.
