/SPARKLE

Disco, the mirror-ball / sparkle aesthetic

The Disco mode renders your image as a glittering field of sparkle points, like a frame of light reflected off a rotating mirror ball at Studio 54. Bright pixels in the source become bright sparkles; their position, density, and scale are computed live so the result holds together as an image even as it shimmers. The aesthetic has roots in 1970s nightclub photography, Andy Warhol's Polaroids of Bianca Jagger and Halston, and a strong revival in 2020s editorial fashion shoots and music video B-roll. It pairs beautifully with Color Overlay (try a hot-pink wash) or with the Bloom + Film Grain stack for that '70s film-stock feel.

/FAQS

Common questions about disco-ball shine

How do I make a disco-ball / glitter effect?
Open ASCII Magic, drop your photo in, and pick the Disco style. Your image becomes reflective glitter tiles with bloom and lens flares, the mirror-ball look. Tune the shine and export as PNG, GIF or MP4. No signup.
Can I add it to a video?
Yes, the Disco style renders every frame with the same glitter shine. Export as an MP4 (H.264) or animated GIF for music videos and loops.
Can I use it on a video?
Yes. Drop an MP4, MOV or WebM into ASCII Magic, pick the style, and every frame renders with the same settings. Export as an MP4 (H.264) or animated GIF.
Does ASCII Magic upload my photos to a server?
No. Every conversion runs locally in your browser using HTML5 Canvas. Your image or video never leaves your device, no upload, no cloud processing.
Is it really free?
Yes, completely free. No signup, no watermark, no export limit, no ads. Export stills up to 4x source resolution.
Can I use the output commercially?
Yes. The output is yours, use it in client work, social posts, prints, music videos, commercial sites, anything. You only need rights to the source image you uploaded.
What does the Disco style do?
It renders the image as a field of bright sparkle points, like light reflecting off a rotating mirror ball. Source brightness maps to sparkle density and scale; the result holds together as an image while shimmering. The look comes straight out of 1970s nightclub photography and modern editorial fashion shoots.
Can I make Disco look more like the actual 70s film stock?
Yes. Stack the Bloom post-effect for highlight bleed, add Film Grain for the analog haze, drop saturation a touch, and apply a warm Color Overlay (Multiply, around 25%) for the warm-toned film cast. The whole stack runs in real time.
