Switch the render mode to Mixed, your photo is instantly redrawn in the mixed-glyph art look.

  3. Tune the look

Adjust glyph density, contrast and colour in real time, from sparse to a dense, layered character blend.

  4. Export

Save as PNG, JPG, animated GIF or MP4, at up to 4× source resolution. No watermark.

/WHY ASCII MAGIC

Built for rich glyph texture

Multiple glyph pools

Cells pull from several character sets at once, a richer texture than a single ASCII ramp.

Layered ASCII look

Blends characters, dots and strokes for a distinctive, detailed render.

Density & palette

Tune detail and recolour in real time.

Video + 4× exports

Render every frame of a clip and export a looping MP4 or GIF; stills export up to 4× source resolution.

/HYBRID

Mixed mode, multiple render styles in one frame

The Mixed mode lets ASCII Magic apply different render styles to different parts of the same image. Bright regions might render as ASCII characters while shadows render as Dots; or a portrait's subject in Pixel Art while the background dithers; or a video where the head is Voxel cubes and everything else is dither. The technique is rare and visually arresting, the eye keeps trying to figure out which rendering rule applies where, and that confusion is the appeal. It works best for graphic design that needs an attention-grabbing twist, music video B-roll, and animated portraits where you want one part of the frame to read differently from the rest. Pair with the Color Overlay post-effect at different opacity per style for even sharper contrast between zones.

/FAQS

Common questions about mixed-glyph art

What is the Mixed glyph style?
Mixed blends several glyph pools per cell, characters, dots and strokes together, for a richer, more textured ASCII render than any single character ramp produces.
How do I make mixed ASCII art from a photo?
Open ASCII Magic, drop your photo in, and pick the Mixed style. Adjust density and colour, then export as PNG, JPG, GIF or MP4. No signup, nothing leaves your browser.
Can I use it on a video?
Yes. Drop an MP4, MOV or WebM into ASCII Magic, pick the style, and every frame renders with the same settings. Export as an MP4 (H.264) or animated GIF.
Does ASCII Magic upload my photos to a server?
No. Every conversion runs locally in your browser using HTML5 Canvas. Your image or video never leaves your device, no upload, no cloud processing.
Is it really free?
Yes, completely free. No signup, no watermark, no export limit, no ads. Export stills up to 4x source resolution.
Can I use the output commercially?
Yes. The output is yours, use it in client work, social posts, prints, music videos, commercial sites, anything. You only need rights to the source image you uploaded.
What does the Mixed render mode do?
Mixed applies different render styles to different regions of the same image, e.g. ASCII for bright areas, Dots for shadows, or Pixel Art for the subject and Dither for the background. It produces a visually arresting hybrid output that rewards a second look.
When should I pick Mixed over a single style?
When you want one part of the frame to read differently from the rest, hero shots, animated portraits, multi-aesthetic album covers, lyric videos, branded content that needs to combine retro + modern. Mixed is also great for stream overlays where the subject should distinguish from the background.
